The Victim Services Unit empowers victims by providing them the tools they need to overcome trauma of victimization. They inform victims of their rights and advocate for those rights to be upheld. They respect and encourage each person's right to make their own informed decisions as they navigate the criminal justice system.

AdHoc offers crisis intervention for individuals and families impacted by violence including: Trauma Response Team (staff and volunteers) canvass door-to-door in neighborhoods following a homicide or violent incident to invite residents to access AdHoc services and encourage cooperation; prayer vigils to honor homicide victims; and flier distribution by staff and volunteers for missing adults and teens.

"Case Management: Strengths-based, client centered, and trauma-informed goal setting, resource referrals, and service linkages emphasizing housing, health, and self-sufficiency for clients assessing shelter and/or outreach services. A full-time Bi-Lingual Case Manager assists clients with limited English proficiency. Targeted Advocacy and Therapy (Hawthorne Place Apartments): Strengths-based, client centered, and trauma-informed goal setting, resource referrals, service linkages, and crisis intervention as well as individual and group therapy services offered onsite at Hawthorne Place Apartments, an income based rental complex located in Independence, MO. Court Advocacy: Assistance in thirteen area courts including order of protection court, as well as lethality assessment programs with nine area municipal police departments. Co-Responding Advocacy: Partnership with the Independence Police Department to provide crisis intervention services, advocacy, and resource referrals and linkages to survivors contacting the police for assistance. The Co-Responding Advocate also coordinates revisits to survivors’ homes with Independence Police officers to offer additional support and resources. Civil Legal Program: Representation to address the broad range of civil legal issues encountered by survivors such as protection orders, child support, child custody, divorce, paternity, etc. Contract Attorneys provide legal representation while a full time Paralegal and Legal Advocate provide support and case management services. Client Assistance Fund: Direct financial assistance to help survivors remove common barriers to achieving self-sufficiency and securing and/or maintaining safe and affordable permanent housing. Specialized and Ancillary Services: Services designed to meet the practical, emotional, and material needs of survivors as they work toward safety, stability, and healing. These services provide for survivors’ basic needs through an onsite clothing closet and food pantry as well as holiday food baskets; offer necessary material goods such as household essentials, school supplies, holiday/birthday gifts; and address survivors’ health, safety and well-being through on onsite dental clinic staffed with volunteer dentists and hygienist and laundry facilities and offering security equipment such as cameras, Ring doorbells, and window/door locks."

A mail forwarding and address confidentiality service for Missouri residents who are victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking or other crimes and fear future harm. The Safe at Home program forwards first class mail, certified mail and legal documents to help keep victims' location confidential. Participants may also use the substitute address on government records and public filings.

Federal Victim-Witness Program aims to ensure that victims of federal crimes are treated fairly, that their privacy is respected, and that they are treated with dignity and respect.

The Victim Assistance program offers victims of crime the assistance they require. The funding is flexible and can help with a wide variety of services. The program is operated in conjunction with the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office as grant funding allows.

The State Department is committed to assisting U.S. citizens who become victims of crime while abroad. We help in two ways: Overseas: consular officers, agents, and staff work with crime victims and help them with the local police and medical systems; and In the United States: our office of Overseas Citizens Services will stay in touch with family members in the United States, and help provide U.S.-based resources for the victim when possible.

The Kansas crime Victim Compensation Board provides crime victims with financial assistance for loss of earnings and out-of-pocket loss for injuries sustained as a direct result of violent crime. This includes reasonable medical care, mental health counseling and/or other services necessary as a result of the injury.

The victim assistance coordinator of the Miami County Attorney's Office provides services to all victims of crime in Miami County, including advising victims of counseling options, preparing victim for trial, determining restitution and filling out restitution claim forms, and assisting victims in the return of stolen property.

Safe at Home is Kansas' address confidentiality program. It provides a substitute address for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking or stalking to use on all public records as well as a free first-class mail forwarding system for participants.

Advocacy is offered to survivors of sexual violence ages 11+ and can assist clients with navigating medical exams, forensic interviews, legal proceedings, or any personal needs. Advocates can act as case workers to help schedule appointments, fill out paperwork, or arrange any needed services. Advocates also provide support, information, and referrals throughout the recovery process of a sexual assault. Advocacy can be accessed at any point.
