Legal Aid’s Consumer Protection unit provides free civil legal counsel and representation for low-income people experiencing consumer and tax law matters that are negatively impacting their lives. Attorneys assist clients in matters such as mortgage delinquency and default, delinquent property tax sales, appealing real estate assessments, bankruptcy, general consumer debt advice and defense, garnishments, and student loan defaults. Attorneys also represent taxpayers before the IRS and Missouri Department of Revenue.
